The 15th ACTRA Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) will be held on Thursday 31 August and Friday 1 September at the Parmelia Hilton Perth. The ASM will be preceded by two Continuing Education Days on Tuesday 29 August (Vibe Hotel Subiaco) and Wednesday 30 August 2023 (Parmelia Hilton)
The conference will focus on the current state of knowledge on chemical carcinogenicity including new and emerging risk assessment tools.
Presentation themes will include:
- An overview of chemical-induced carcinogenesis, the widely accepted paradigm of carcinogenesis
- Regulation and risk assessment of carcinogens and relevance to Australian regulatory and advisory agencies
- How chemical carcinogenicity is determined and how this information is used to set regulatory guidelines and standards
- Australian regulatory and advisory agencies rely primarily on IARC cancer classifications to assess risk. The IARC cancer classification system and process are explained
- Perspectives on elimination of animal assays in assessment of carcinogenicity
- Integrating computational tools into carcinogenicity assessments
- How risks are managed in the workplace and for public health
- The IARC model for assessing chemical carcinogenicity is critically appraised
- The USEPA and EFSA systems for determining and classifying carcinogenic pesticides
- Review and discussion of the carcinogenic potential of PFAS and nitrates
- Approaches for quantitative assessment of skin cancer risk from soil contamination: a benzo(a)pyrene case study.
